Today I bring you the best in both advertising, and badvertising. How exciting this must be for you! These two ads are at the complete opposite ends of the scale. Well, I wouldn’t say complete opposite, but they’ve incredibly far apart from each other.
The first, the bad one, is the new advert for Wall’s Sausages from Saatchi & Saatchi. Wall’s were renowned for their rather funny and awfully slapstick adverts featuring the humble pet dog trying to get his hands on some (not very tasty) sausages. This one departs from that little slice of humour, and instead tries to make light of the fact that men are such cads, and can’t tell their wives that they love them. Haha, silly men, what useless idiots! Unfortunately it’s not on youtube yet, so you’ll have to watch it here. That’s right, right here.
It’s a bit rubbish really isn’t it? Especially when compared to previous corkers like the following;
The next ad I’m going to give no introduction for. Well, that’s a lie, but I’ll tell you nothing much about what happens. It’s for the new Land Rover Range Rover, and it’s pretty darn good.
Wasn’t that advert just brilliant? Genuinely funny, and almost completely distanced from the product. The headline at the end ties it all together into a perfectly sized 30 second long gift of an advert. It’s one of the best I’ve seen in a long time, and that’s saying something.
These past few days have been quite lacking on lengthy entries, but I’ve been incredibly stressed this week. I shall hopefully be able to get back to being my over the top, sometimes rude, sometimes abrasive, and on the odd occasion out of many a little funny, within the next week or two. Who knows, maybe I’ll even tell you why, In the mean time, watch that second advert again. It’s a corker!
